Talk about a home workout! Hashtag team no excuses whatsoever.
This St Louis grandma who is 86-years-old has lost 120 pounds by walking every day in her small apartment. We are talking 3000 steps in the comfort of her own home. No need to wait in line for the gym treadmill or brave the cold!
Jessica Slaughter told KSDK in St Louis that she struggled with obesity as a kid and was bullied a lot.
She says ” Even as a kid in Mississippi I was always the fattest kid in class and got teased a lot; and I didn’t know how to stop eating fried chicken. Bacon and eggs. Desserts, like cakes and pies.”
Her diet
Ms. Slaughter took the decision to make a lifestyle change in her 70s. She changed her diet by eliminating meat and going vegan. “I chose losing weight over staying fat. I just didn’t want to die like that” she says. A typical breakfast for her now consists of fresh fruit and cereal.
Her workout
She took the decision to start walking in her tiny 1-bedroom apartment every day; from her living to to her kitchen. When she started seeing the results it encouraged her to continue. Ms Slaughter also had to overcome her alcohol addiction in order to lose the weight and keep it off. At her largest she was wearing a dress size 22 but now down to a size 4 and no longer pre-diabetic.
She walks every morning which takes her 20-25 minutes and uses her Fitbit to track her steps which typically average 3000 steps. She told KSDK that walking indoors works for her as she’s a little fearful of going outside due to the risk of falling and her safety.
Her fitness mantras
“You don’t have to go fast to get into shape you just have to go”
“It’s never too late to go to the gym”
She says, “I just want seniors to know just because we’ve gotten to a certain age, we don’t have to stop living. I want to tell them that there’s a better way of life.”
Ms. Slaughter told KSDK that going vegan may not be for everyone but that people should think more about what they eat and how much they move.
An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a co-worker who was doing a little research on this. And he actually bought me lunch because I stumbled upon it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanx for spending the time to discuss this matter here on your site.
