Meet Brandi, a strong, determined Airman whose journey shows that transformation is about more than just the number on the scale; it’s about self-awareness, resilience, and faith. At first, Brandi didn’t even realise she had gained weight. Her uniform felt a little tighter, but in her mind, nothing had changed. It wasn’t until she saw photos from a trip to Mexico that the reality hit her. That moment became the spark for a journey that would test her physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Can you tell us about your weightloss transformation?
I honestly didn’t notice that I had gained weight. I knew my ABU’s (United States Air Force uniform) were getting tighter, but in my mind nothing had changed and I was the finest thing walking. It wasn’t until later receiving pictures from my trip to Mexico that I actually noticed and accepted the fact that I had gained weight.
What first steps did you take on your fitness journey?
To achieve my results, I slowed down on the weights and increased my cardio drastically because I knew running would allow me to cut extra weight alittle faster than me lifting weights. After losing approximately 10lbs I endured a knee injury which put a halt on my running.
How did you overcome this bump in the road?
I was a little devastated, but I’m a child of God and knew “no weapon formed against me shall prosper” so I had to come up with another way to reach my goal. I began testing out all the cardio machines at our gym and found that the stairmaster was the only machine that I could do for 20+ minutes before actually feeling pain in my knee. Needless to say, the stairmaster became my bestfriend and I was faithfully in the gym everyday doing the stairs.
What changes did you make to your diet?
The eating was the hardest part for me if I must say. It seemed as though EVERYTHING I was eating caused me to bloat. I went through many trials and errors until I figured out which foods actually caused the bloating and I cut those out of my diet completely.
Where are you currently on your journey?
My starting weight was 196. I am currently sitting at 167 with a goal of 155. My transformation originally took 4 months with a few fluctuations.
What was the biggest challenge on your weight loss journey?
The hardest part of my transformation was being in my workplace. Temptation to the sweets and fried foods was no stranger while on the job. To overcome these temptations I started leaving my wallet at home, packing my first two meals and walking home on my lunch break for my third meal and to prepare my fourth. This worked for me, so I stuck to it.
The way I see it, everything happens for a reason. My weight loss journey brought me closer to other airmen that have similar goals as I do. We constantly motivate each other, work out together and occasionally meal prep together.
What advice would you offer others?
The advice I always give other women starting their journey is that the change will come. If you remain disciplined and motivated, you will see a difference. It’s not always about the number on the scale either. There may be times where you may cut an inch or two from your waist, but the scale remains the same. Don’t lose faith. You got it ladies!
