Our girl Jackie has had fans dip diving into her DMs requesting for her workout and diet deets and In true Jackie style she put her hand up and said “Nuh-uh, y’all ain’t dragging me in these social media streets for how I live MY life.” It’s no wonder people are curious about how she maintains her toned, sculpted physique. She looks fantastic and exudes health every time she’s on camera or steps out.

Jackie Aina, 36, is an influencer, entrepreneur, veteran of the armed services, advocate, and prolific vlogger with over 3.5 million subscribers on YouTube.  Based in Los Angeles, Jackie began vlogging 14 years ago and became known for sharing her beauty secrets, tips, and tricks. She has helped her viewers navigate luxury cosmetics counters, drugstore aisles, and subscription boxes. Her reviews and how-to guides have traditionally covered a wide range of products, from foundations and concealers to lipsticks and sunscreens, testing items across various price points.

Respected within the beauty space, Jackie is renowned for calling out the industry’s lack of inclusivity and advocating for brands to expand their foundation ranges to include darker shades. Her significant contributions have solidified her name in the beauty industry.

While Jackie has generously shared beauty insights throughout her career, she prefers to keep details about her diet and specific workout routines private.

She doesn’t wish to influence every aspect of her life

In a recent video,  Jackie addressed why she doesn’t share specific details of her workout and diet regimen, after Nigerian Singer-songwriter Ayra Starr apparently DM’d Jackie asking for her workout routine. Jackie responded in her usual playful style, that while she loves her, she doesn’t share her fitness or diet plans. In a collective address to her viewers she stressed that she doesn’t wish to influence every aspect of her life and highlighted her concern for her own self-image. Jackie noted that once such information is shared, it often gets critiqued rather than just consumed.

The video caption reads:  “when I became an influencer, I never wanted to influence people on *everything*and I think that’s okay! I’m not comfortable with the way people dissect women’s bodies online and I want zero parts. My body is sacred and I’ve created a safe space for it to only be surrounding with positive treatment and healthy habits. Also just a friendly reminder that everything don’t work for every body”

She pointed out the availability of fitness information online and suggested that people find specific plans there.

Forewarned is forearmed

Jackie stressed that she’s very protective of her image and is put off by the frequent criticism of creators’ diets. She cited Lori Harvey, stating, “I know what y’all did to Lori Harvey.”

In 2022, Lori Harvey, 25, spoke on TikTok about the tactics she used to lose 15 pounds of “relationship weight” she gained after she began dating actor Michael B. Jordan. Her strategy involved Pilates, cardio workouts, and cutting down her calorie intake.

However, the model received backlash after revealing she only ate 1,200 calories a day, despite professionals recommending between 1,600 and 3,000 daily.

While some people were happy that Lori shared her weight loss secrets, others criticised her for eating such a low amount and promoting it online. Lori defended herself in the comments, explaining that although it “worked for her and her body, everyone is different.”

She chooses privacy to protect her followers too

Jackie believes that just because she has followers doesn’t mean every aspect of her life is open for critique. Her decision not to share personal fitness details is to protect both herself and her followers.

She stressed the importance of being thoughtful and considerate in how she influences others, making it clear that not everything needs to be shared publicly.

Jackie received a lot of supportive comments:

One commenter on Tiktok wrote, “Gatekeeping for the protection of self and others… that’s what I like to call responsible influence “

Another stated, “I’ve been a fan from the beginning. I know you ain’t sharing the workout deets. But there’s plenty info online if people want help.” To which Jackie replied, “That’s where I get all my tea! On here!”

A third concurred with Jackie, stating, “I don’t have to be the example and the voice and influence of everything. THAT PART BECAUSE BABeeee! It’s not everything that has to be shared!”

A fourth wrote, “Protecting peace all 2024 and beyond “

Another supporter chimed in, “I love ur boundaries seriously. It’s very inspiring to be fully yourself unapologetically in such a public setting (social media).”

And another said, “I was definitely looking forward to a workout routine, but I completely understand your points and boundaries!!”

Jackie’s refusal to share her specific workout details underscores her belief that power is in our hands to drive change in our lives.

Concluding thoughts

While Jackie Aina could share details of her diet and lifestyle, doing so could invite scrutiny and potential consequences, similar to what happened when she advocated for diversity and inclusion in the beauty industry, which ultimately strained her relationships with some brands.

Consequently, Where does that leave her and her right to protect certain parts of her lifestyle? There are aspects of our lives that we cherish privately, and giving others a view can invite criticism and in turn diminish that enjoyment. We’re all entitled to privacy and she is not wrong for wanting to maintain her own peace and integrity, even if it means not yielding to fan requests.

Her emphasis on not sharing personal fitness details is to protect both herself and her followers. She seems to recognise the responsibility of influencing young, impressionable fans and aims to avoid misinterpretations by setting clear boundaries. Her approach suggests a commitment to ensuring her followers make informed decisions without feeling undue pressure.

Also, there’s a level of humility in recognising that, even though you can do something, others might be more qualified and better suited for the role. Jackie’s refusal to share her personal fitness details, and instead encouraging her viewers to conduct their own research and seek out their own paths to fitness-, is a form of empowerment. It sends the message: if I can do it, so can you.

Furthermore, there isn’t a single standard for fitness. There are multiple ways to get fit and stay fit, and it doesn’t need to come from her to be valid.

What I see here is a leader with clear boundaries. Her approach to influence reflects the experience gained from her career as an influencer.
